And a little more...

The work through this afternoon. Lots of clean up needed and detailing.

Rocky Raccoon

This is my first big board ((9X12) and it almost seems easier than the smaller ones. Maybe because the details aren't so small! This is a crop of a ref from Mike Bolling who has given me his permission to use his photo for this scratchboard. I will be using the entire photo in a later project because it's really cute! Not sure if this one will be colored or left as scratched. We'll have to wait and see.

Redbird Finished

I'm a bit disillusioned regarding the finish of my redbird. I thought it looked somewhat better after adding some scratching to that black wing, but after spraying and scanning the final photo, it looks terrible. I just can't get a good photo of it. Maybe it's the glare from the spray shining on the scanner glass. I used a matte finish Krylon which is supposed to keep the surface of the board from getting further scratches and fingerprints. I got the same glare on the sunflower which I am not even going to post because it looks worse. Good thing I took photos prior to spraying!

Red Tanager

The weather has been beautiful this week so I've spent the majority of my time outdoors. Since I don't see too well at night it doesn't leave much time for scrathboard right now. Never fear, these weather days are limited here and will soon be too hot to be out there long!

As I was sitting on my garden bench enjoying the bird chatter, I was working a little on this little bird. Soon he will be a Red Tanager.

Signs of Spring

Got so engrossed in scratching that I forgot to post my new project! I am way into it now and, in fact, might finish it up by tomorrow. Then I can work some more on the flamingo, too. I went to Harbor Freight and found some new scratching tools so I'm looking forward to finding some more scratchables! Before and after color photos!

Going with Color

With some prodding from my friends at WC, I have added some color to the scratchboard surface! I was afraid to do this because I don't have much experience in scratching much less adding color. But, it really has gotten me more excited about the scratchboard--all I was missing was the color and now I can have that too! I will continue to play with this piece another day and then start a new one! It's fun, you should try it!

Flamingo Progressing!

Here is the second day's work on the flamingo! I think I have about another day's work to go.

Flamingo--A Work in Progress

My poor colored pencils are being neglected because I'm having so much fun with the scratchboard! I just started this flamingo before our week long trip; now that we're back I'm really anxious to work on it some more. I'm trying to learn a bit more about how to make it look like feathers!

Swan

I finished him, I think! I had so much fun, I'm starting another!
